P. 31
REFORMATION OF THE MIND BY THE SPIRIT AND THE WORD
wasn’t committed to all of the right stuff. He was one
of the old covenant people who had loved God’s Word
but was misguided. He needed the Holy Spirit to
reveal Christ to him. God revealed the new covenant
truth to him by His Spirit.
The law alone would not do. Self-discipline by
itself was not enough. He needed the Spirit of Grace
to empower him.
Paul would later teach something we all must
learn – we need the Holy Spirit to live this life. He is
the Helper. The Spirit graciously gives us faith and
energizes our faith. He reveals the Truth and teaches
us to affirm it by faith. He helps us to keep our eyes
on Jesus, the author, and developer of our faith. He
instructs us and applies God’s Truth, nudging us
into agreement and alignment with God in every area
of our lives. The Holy Spirit gives us the desire for
righteousness and empowers our righteous
commitments.
So much more could be said here about the Person
and work of the Spirit. I will sum it up with this - we
absolutely cannot live for Christ without the gracious
help of His Spirit. Basically, anything the believer
does without His help is either a return to the law, a
meager exercise of the flesh or soulish-life, or an
activity under the delusion of the demonic. If we
receive His help, we will be so glad we did. “Let us
open up our lives fully to the help of the Spirit of
Grace. Amen!”
“It is the Spirit who gives life. The flesh profits
nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and
are life.” John 6:63

things I want you constantly to affirm,…”
