That’s Crazy
By August, we were so busy with many meetings happening
simultaneously, I had staffed up with 8 high school and college
students. I had my niece Chloe, who would spend summers with me
from Kinston, working with me for the summer. I had a team of 12
people.
The pressure continued at Cox with the suspicion that I was
leaking information. I continued to try to determine where the
contract was landing. My client informed me they had chosen the
TLM Group to receive the contract. He had given me their
information and I had arranged for an interview. Little did I know I
would be fired and hired on the same day.
The week I was fired began as any other week. The students and
I were preparing for five conferences that were occurring the
following week. I should have known something was up because the
owner had taken a vacation and had hired a new white woman as Vice
President. She became my new immediate supervisor. By the end of
the week on Friday, my new supervisor came to my office and
demanded that I begin to clear my office immediately because she
would be moving into my office. She also wanted me to sit down and
to update her on the status of all my projects. I was pissed that she
thought she could demand that I move in the middle of all the work
that was happening. I told her I would not be complying. She then
slapped my desk and told me I was fired for insubordination and I
needed to remove myself from the premises immediately.
