CHAPTER 5
On the Way to Ownership

I
started my employment with the TLM Group in September, I was
still angry about the salary cut, but that just motivated me to start
the process of opening my business. Since I was not able to drive
the contract to IT Solutions, the company Jerome was working for,
Jerome received a promotion to head up the IT Solutions conference
department. He also hired some of the students that had been released
from Cox. He continued to get hands-on training and built up a
network of clients.
My immediate supervisor, Susan was in her late fifties about 5 ft
2 in, who dressed as though she was born with a spoon in her mouth.
She had made a successful career in writing and winning proposals for
other minority-owned businesses. She was my first exposure to the
elitist class and demonstrated how the upper class supposedly lived.
As I said earlier, during my interview, Susan had indicated that there
were too many black women in her department. Sure to her word, she
began weaning out the black project managers. She began replacing
