I had already lined up the interview with TLM, who had been
designated as the new contractor and the interview was scheduled for
later that afternoon. I was fired at 11:30 am and the interview was
scheduled for 1:30 pm. As soon as the kids learned I had been fired,
they were crying and rebelling. I was trying to pack my things and at
the same time calm them down. Before I knew it they had taken all
the meeting materials and were beginning to load a car with the
materials. I had to stop packing my things and make them go back to
the car and return the materials they had removed from the office
They were funny, they did return the items, but they returned them in
such a mess that no one would be able to step in and understand where
each meeting stood. I contacted all my clients before I left and
informed them what had occurred, especially for those meetings we
were preparing for the next week.
I left the office for the interview and trying to gather myself from
the shock of being fired to give a halfway good interview. I arrived at
the interview, and as things go in Washington, many of the employees
working for the TLM Group I had worked with at two companies
previously.
As I was being interviewed by TLM's new vice president, Susan,
another white female, who had just gotten hired to manage the
division, I felt I had an obligation to inform her that I had just gotten
fired, and I do believe she used this opportunity to take advantage of
the situation. She offered me the position but also cut my salary by
$13,000. She told me that I was too young and black to be making the
