In the event that no Preschool or Junior Kindergarten faculty wanted the additional section, it would be offered
to faculty in the After-School/Vacation Care (AS/VC) programs according to their seniority in these programs.
Preference would be given to AS/VC faculty who work with Preschool and/or Junior Kindergarten students.
In case of enrollment changes in the After-School Program, every attempt will be made to do what is fair and
reasonable. However, the school cannot be expected to maintain an After-School position when the number of
students does not justify a position.
CONCUSSION POLICY
Renbrook School utilizes Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT) to ensure
the safety and protection of our student athletes to provide a baseline measurement that aids in the diagnosis
and management of sports related concussions. ImPACT is the most widely used and most scientifically
validated computerized concussion evaluation system. The test provides computerized neurocognitive
assessment tools that are used by doctors, athletic trainers and other licensed health care professionals to
assist them in determining an athlete’s ability to return to play after suffering a concussion.
All students in grades 6 through 8 are annually required to participate in the ImPACT testing. There will be no
cost to parents for the testing.
If a student is suspected of having a concussion, a coach, administrator or trainer will re-administer the
ImPACT test within a reasonable amount of time from suspected concussion. A trained administrator will
review the screening and will report the outcomes to Head of School, School Nurse, Athletic Trainer, Coach,
and parents of the student. Parents of the student may elect to have a follow-up visit with his/her pediatrician.
Case findings of the ImPACT test will be available for pediatrician’s use. All reports will be kept confidential.
When a doctor has cleared a student to return to school and resume play, the “Renbrook Return to Play
Protocol” will be followed. "When in doubt, sit it out."
Renbrook’s "Return to Play Protocol" following a Concussion
Exertion plays a significant role in concussion management, and once an athlete is released to begin athletic
activities, it is critical that appropriate guidelines are followed. During this protocol, it is very important to have
the athlete monitored by an individual who can detect if symptoms return (i.e. headache, dizziness, nausea.) If
symptoms return at any time during this protocol, the activity of the day will be discontinued, and the athlete
should not reengage in the activity level until symptoms have been absent for at least twenty-four (24) hours.
We request that the protocol below be followed.
Aerobic Levels
Level 1- non-pounding activity for 15-20 minutes
Example: stationary bike with no resistance, walking
Level 2- pounding activity for 15-20 minutes
Example: jogging, treadmill, elliptical
Sport Specific Non-Contact
Level 3- Sport related drills and conditioning
Example: weightlifting, running or sprinting
No activity that requires athlete to wear protective gear and/or helmets
Level 4- Full participation in practice without contact from other player
Activities that require athlete to wear protective gear and helmets
