who wants to become leaders in the future as follow:
Guiding vision: The leader has a clear of what he or she wants to do
professionally and personally and the strength to persist in the face of setbacks, even
failures. Unless one knows where he is going and why, he cannot possibly get there.
That guiding purpose, that vision, was well illustrated by Norman Lear.
Passion: The underlying passion for the promises of life, combined with a
very particular passion for a vocation, a profession, a course of action. The leader loves
what he or she does and love doing it. Tolstoy said that hope are the dreams of the
waking man. Without hope, we cannot survive, much less progress. The leader who
communicates passion gives hop and inspiration to other people.
The third basic ingredient of leadership is integrity. In this section, Bennis
divided into three essential parts of integrity: self-knowledge, candor, and maturity.
Self-knowledge: means “know thyself.” This is one of the most difficult task
for any leaders have to face. Until they know themselves, strengths and weaknesses,
know what they want to do and why, they cannot succeed in any but the most superficial
sense of the world. Leaders never lie to themselves, especially about themselves, know
their faults as well as their assets, and deal with them directly. In the section of this self-
knowledge also Bennis expressed with four lessons of self-knowledge, namely: One is
one’s own best teacher, Accept responsibility, and Blame no one, One can learn
anything he wants to learn, and True understanding comes from reflecting on
experience.
Candor: candor is the key to self-knowledge. Candor is based in honesty of
thought and action, a steadfast devotion to principle, and a fundamental soundness and
wholeness.
Maturity: maturity is important to a leader because leading is not simply
showing the way or issuing orders. Every leader needs to have experienced and grown
