through following learning to be dedicated, observant, capable of working with and
learning from others, never servile, always truthful. Having located these qualities in

themselves, leaders can encourage them in others.

Integrity: integrity is the basis of trust, which is not as much an ingredient

of leadership as it is a product. In addition, there are four steps to build trust: Constancy,
Congruity, Reliability, and Integrity as mentioned above in the III strategies of

leadership: Trust through positioning. It is the one quality that cannot be acquired, but
must be earned. It is given by co-workers and followers, and without it, the leader

                       cannot function.

Two more final basic ingredients of leadership are curiosity and daring.

Leaders wonder about everything, want to learn as much as they can, are willing to take

risks, experiment, try new things. They do not worry about failure, but embrace errors,
knowing they will learn from them. That is why the leaders are also the learners.

As summarize of qualities of leadership according to leadership Guru

Warren G. Bennis, there are over fifty sorts of leadership skills that every leaders must

learn and practice. But researcher just described in this chapter was only basic
ingredient of leadership in one of his books: On Becoming a Leader. Because, he

interviewed ninety leaders around to complete his research and summarize into a book.
In this book he divided into ten chapters. Among them, understanding basic in chapter

two seems very important for every learning leaders. He realized that leaders must

know themselves before knowing the world. That is why, he added this “true leaders
                                                                                                59
are not born, but made, and usually self-made. Leaders invent themselves.” Without
knowing themselves, no one can become leaders. People become leaders in the moment
that they realize, and decide for themselves how and what to be. No one can teach them

to know themselves who they are. They themselves have to take charge, expect and
learn what to be. Getting people in oneself also necessary for every leader to organize

and reorganize the society. Even he did not mention about responsibility as a main

quality and topic, but it is already including there. To know oneself, to understand the
