6.0 Training and Qualifications
Osprey Rescue have a programme of ongoing training in the following areas:
1) Scuba Diver Qualifications (All members)
2) Diver Rescue Training (All members)
3) Medical Trauma First Aid and Oxygen Administration (All members)
4) High Pressure Air Systems (All members)
5) Boat Handling (Helmsmen and trainees) (Ref 2)
6) Manual Handling (All members)
7) Health and Safety Training (All members)

All front men are qualified to Microdive qualifications or even up to CSMA 3 and
carry out continuation training throughout the year. All members MUST attend an
Immersion Test session annually (Annex 4, P3) where they practice rescue skills
such as recovering a pilot from an upturned cockpit and use of a spine
board/stretcher as well as familiarity with the use of the enclosed 100 Kg lift bags
employed by the Team.
Every member must attend training which is provided annually for refresher/initial
training and examination in trauma First Aid and Oxygen Administration.
All members are trained in the care and use of High Pressure Air Systems and there
are delegated members certified to use and to supervise the Air Compressor to
fill/refill compressed air cylinders for the Team divers and the emergency air
cylinders for the powerboat pilots. Only certified members are allowed to use the Air
Compressor without supervision.
All Helmsmen must pass the RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate or RYA Safety Boat
Certificate. Trainee helmsmen require 12 months operationally as a supervised
helmsman prior to being allowed to drive in major race meetings.
Manual handling and Health and Safety training for ALL members is carried out by
the in-house specialist annually (Ref 3)
