1.2.2.4. Resource Generation
Faculty members at the tertiary level are encouraged to produce scholarly
outputs that showcase their expertise and scholarship. These knowledge-based
projects can help generate additional income for the institution. Faculty members are
expected to:
1.2.2.4.1. Develop scholarly works like books, magazines, journals, research articles,
and monographs, lectures, modules, instructional materials for publication
in educational journals;
1.2.2.4.2. Design, develop and share multimedia courseware and resources such as
tapes, videotapes, PowerPoint presentation and other courseware
packages;
1.2.2.4.3. Design and produce materials for presentation and production in the
performing arts; and
1.2.2.4.4. Establish and manage other income generating projects.
1.3. Recruitment& Selection of Faculty Members
1.3.1. Recruitment
The following are the basic principles of recruitment:
1.3.1.1. Recruit the best and the brightest;
1.3.1.2. Follow the merit and fitness principle;
1.3.1.3. The minimum qualification for permanent faculty appointments is an earned
Master’s degree;
1.3.1.4. Hiring of faculty members is primarily based on the need of the college or
department for these services and if there are vacancies or workloads that cannot
be addressed by the existing pool of faculty in the university.
1.3.1.5. This need is determined by the Campus Directors in consultation with the Deans/
Chairpersons forwarded to the Vice President for Academic Affairs for verification
and the University President for approval;
1.3.1.6. Massive information/dissemination of vacant positions by the HRMO.
1.3.2. Selection
1.3.2.1. The HRMO pre-evaluates the applicant’s credentials. Those met the qualification
requirements are listed and forwarded to the University Personnel Selection Board
(UPSB) for evaluation. Those who failed to qualify are informed accordingly.
1.3.2.2. The UPSB sits down to lay down evaluation criteria, allocation of points and manner
of evaluation.
1.3.2.3. The UPSB evaluates the appropriateness of the educational qualification and the
adequacy of the teaching experiences required by the position, and the scholastic
standing based on the transcript of records.
1.3.2.4. The UPSB interviews the applicant to validate the credentials and to determine the
communication skills and predispositions of the applicant. The applicant may be
asked to demonstrate an actual teaching episode to further validate performance.
1.3.2.5. The results of the UPSB evaluation is placed on the Comparative Assessment Form
with the corresponding ranks of the applicants and forwarded to the office of the
University President for final selection.
1.3.2.6. The HRMO releases the CAF only after it was acted by the University President.
Thereafter, the HRMO informs those who were not selected and process the
appointment papers of those selected.
