ral forces become God's supernatural instruments of
judgment.
Divine judgments always begin with "small commo-
tions" of nature, which is God's way of pleading with
mankind to repent. Then follow major crises, when His
pleadings turn to protests. A God who is but little dis-
pleased is provoked to anger because of men rushing to
judgment. "And I am very sore displeased with the
heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little dis-
pleased, and they helped forward the affliction" (Ze-
chariah 1:15 KJV).
God does not sit as an unconcerned spectator when
judgment falls. It comes from His mind, by His hands.
Judgment is God at work.
The Lord replied: "Look, and be amazed! You
will be astounded at what I am about to do! For I
am going to do something in your own lifetime
that you will have to see to believe."
(Habakkuk 1:5 LB)
2. God Will Roar
Judgment is God's "roaring" against wickedness.
And God sends watchmen with warnings to avert judg-
ment, not just to announce them. God always hopes his
warnings will be heeded and judgment avoided.
I believe this generation is already in the process of
being judged. We have been to His court, we have lost
our case, the penalty has been pronounced, and the execu-
tion of the sentence is already under way. We are in a
pause just before judgment, because God is slow to an-
ger and is merciful. He is giving mankind time and space
to repent.
For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive;
and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call
upon thee.
(Psalms 86:5 KJv)
