benefits from the tremendous progress of science and technology, millions of people who
live in grinding poverty are deprived of the benefits from the latter.
Accurate Diagnosis
Thus, we can realise an important truth, that political, social, religious, economic
and educational reforms, as also the extraordinary progress brought about by science
and technology, have been proved to be unsuccessful to achieve the desired goal. What
then is the main reason for this failure? The reason for the failure can be explained by an
example. If the physcial condition of a person deteriorates, it is essential to correctly
diagnose his ailment. If the patient is complaining about a severe stomachache, it is
necessary to treat him for his stomach ailment. Abundance of food, money, wealth and
power will be of no use to give relief to that patient, as long as he is not cured of his
stomach disorder. In the same way, as long as the exact reason for the deterioration in
the condition of the entire human race is not exactly diagnosed, various reforms and
progress of science and technology will not only continue to be unsuccessful to improve
this condition, but this situation is likely to be aggravated further. It is, therefore,
necessary to diagnose accurately, the cause of this deteriorated condition of the human
race, so as to enforce correct remedial measures to overcome this deterioration.
Ego is the Root Cause
As stated earlier, ego which is ignorance incarnate, assumes various forms in
human life and becomes responsible for creating, confusion and chaos in human life.
Hence JEEVANVIDYA emphatically states that,
"Ignorance from which ego manifests, is the root cause of all the ailments and
problems of human society."
"Ignorance and ego nourish each other and become mighty enough to destroy the
life of a person who shelters (harbours) them."
In fact, Man is not only ignorant about various aspects of life, but he is also
ignorant of the truth that, his ignorance is of tremendous magnitude. The climax of Man's
ignorance is that, he does not even know where exactly his welfare lies. The result is that
he avoids performing such actions which can ensure his welfare and well being, while he
persistently performs such actions that are harmful to him and to others. In this way, not
only does he himself become miserable due to several problems that he creates in his
life, but he also becomes responsible for miseries and sufferings of the society in which
