                                                      Abstract

The explosion of dog population is known related to rabies cases, so it becomes an important issue in Bali.
Population control using sterilization causes several risk such as osteocarcinoma and hemangiosarcoma.
Alternative methods are needed to control dog population. Cepoka egg plant (Solanum torvum sw) is known contain
the active ingredient solasodine. Solasodine has function as an antifertility because it has cytotoxic effect on cells.
Kapok seeds (Ceiba pentandra) is known as plants containing gossipol. Gosipol, a phenolic compound, has potential
as an antifertility. Kapok seed influences the control of reproductive hormones and has a cytotoxic effect. Twenty
female white rats (Rattus norvegicus) were used and divided into 4 groups : negative control, P1 cepoka eggplant
extract 1g / kg BW, P2 kapok seed extract 0.1g / kg BW and P3 (combination cepoka eggplant and kapok seed
extract). Treatment and examination of the estrous cycle were carried out for 10 days. Rattus norvegicus dissected
on the 11 day to collect the ovaries. Histological tissue sample preparations were made, followed by Hematoxilin
                  th
Eosin staining to calculate the number of follicles and immunohistochemical staining to observe GDF-9 expressions.
The results of the examination of the estrous cycle, examination of the number of follicles (folliculogenesis) and
expression of GDF-9 were analyzed quantitatively by one way ANOVA with P <0.05. The results showed that cepoka
eggplant extract (solanum torvum sw) dose of 1g / kg body weight was more effective in shortening the estrous
cycle compared to cotton seed extract (Ceiba pentandra) dose of 0.1g / kg body weight and its combination. While
kapok seed extract (Ceiba pentandra) is effective in reducing the expression of GDF-9 up to 51%. Cepoka eggplant
extract (solanum torvum sw) dose 1g / kg body weight and kapok seed extract (Ceiba pentandra) dose 0.1g / kg
body weight did not affect the number of follicles. It is necessary to isolate solasodine and gosipol from Ceiba
          pentandra and Kapok seed.
