                                                          Abstract
Cotton seeds (Ceiba pentandra) and eggplant cepoka (Solanum torvum) are plant ingredients that affect
fertility. Solasodine and gossypol compounds from the extract of eggplant cepoka and cotton seeds are thought to
be used as herbal contraceptives in male animals. This study aimed to determine the effect of cepoka eggplant
extract (Solanum torvum) and cotton seeds (Ceiba pentandra) on the infertility of male rats (Rattus norvegicus)
through NFkB expression and diameter of the seminiferous tubules. The experimental animals were used male
Wistar strains aged three months, with the weight of 150-200 grams. The experimental design used a completely
randomized design (CRD) with three treatment groups, for each using six male rats. K (-): Rats are not treated with
induction of gossypol or solasodine compounds. P1: Rats are treated with induction of solasodine compounds with
a dose of 1 g/kg BW. P2: Rats were given an induction treatment of gossypol compounds with a dose of 0.1 g/kg
BW. Cotton seeds and eggplant cepoka extracted by maceration method with 70% ethanol. The examination of
NFkB expression using immunohistochemical methods and analyzed by software Immunoratio. The
Histopathological examination (HE) of seminiferous tubule diameter was analyzed by software image raster 3. Data
used the One Way ANOVA test Tukey follow-up test with a confidence level of 95% (α = 0.05). The results showed
that administration of eggplant cepoka extract could significantly increase NFkB expression (P<0,05) average
number 87,22 ± 6,89 with a dose of 1 g/kg BW. Cottonseed extract can reduce the diameter of seminiferous tubules
with an average of 0.31 ± 0.016 with a dose of 0.1 g/kg BW. This research concludes that eggplant cepoka and
cotton seeds extract can be used as candidates for herbal contraceptive ingredients.
