MAIN GROUP SUB GROUP SERIAL NO CHECK-DIGIT
Part "A" consists of two digits representing the MAIN GROUP of stores to which item
belongs.

Part "B" two digits representing sub group. Each Main group has been divided into Sub
Groups. The sub grouping for most of the rolling stock groups is on the basis of major
assemblies of which the item is a part e.g. brake fittings, under frame, engine block, etc.
Part “C' consists of 3 digits and it is the serial no. of the item. No significance is attached to

this number.
Part “D” one digit, which has a special significance with reference to computerisation. This

is the Check digit. This digit is unique to a given number and it is intended to check the
integrity of the number.

28. Contract :

Contract is an agreement conducted between capable parties .
Contract is mainly two types
1. works contracts – in this contract the value of works is more than 50%.

Types of works contract
i. lump sump contracts
ii. schedule contract

iii. piece work contract
2. supply contract – in this contract the value of supply material is more than 50%. This
type of contract is done by store department for purchase & supply of materials.

Types of supply contract –
i. running contract
ii. schedule contract
iii. on delivery contract

29. limited tender :
 This tender required skilled employees.
 Limited tender invites the contractors who are specialist in particular work.

 Minimum 10 firms required to be filled tender forms to implement limited tender.
 Firm should be registered in Railway Registration list .

 limited tender invited by approval of FA&CAO.
