THE SOLITUDES (The first part, fragment)

                                          Delicacies that the poison
                                          and the appetite equally ignore
served him; and in not glittering gold
confused Bacchus, nor in sparkling silver,
                                          their nectar unties them,
                                          but in glass crimson topazes
                                          and pale rubies.

                                                             Marquis of Griñón

Four centuries ago, Góngora, with his beautiful culteran language, anticipated some gastrono-
mic concepts which are fully used nowadays: light and healthy food as offered today by the new
Spanish cuisine, together with beautifully coloured white and rose wines, served in glass cups
so as to appreciate them better.
He finally describes how wine harmonizes with the dishes by untying them.
