In Jaén, where I live,
Comience el vinillo nuevo
Lives don Lope de Sosa
And, Inés, let me tell you
The bravest thing you might have heard about him.
This gentleman had
A Portuguese servant…
But, Inés, let us dine
First, if you agree.
The table is laid,
The food is there,
The wine glasses are ready,
Let the feast begin.
Let us drink this fresh wine
And I shall bless it;
I have the habit
Of blessing what I drink.
That was a very sincere touch,
Pass me the wineskin;
A florin is the value of each drop
Of this fine wine.
Un fragmento o la parte desprendida de un texto, se sustrae forzosamente a una interpretación
profunda, pero deja, en cambio, más espacio para la fantasía, y es adecuado cuando se trata de
un tema siempre actual, como una comida compartida por dos personas en la intimidad coronada
por el vino. Con el vino la comida se convierte en una fiesta. Así pues, sobra preguntarse si don
Lope tuvo que aportar realmente muchas monedas de oro para su aloque o tan sólo le parecía
que su bota estaba repleta de oro.

An extract or a part separated from a text is necessarily in opposition to a deep interpretation,
but on the other hand it allows more space to fantasy, and it is a good thing when it is about an
everlasting topic, such as a meal shared by two people in privacy crowned with wine. Thanks to wine
a meal changes into a feast. So it makes no sense to wonder if don Lope really had to pay so many
gold coins for his aloque, or if it only seemed to him that his leather wine bottle was full of gold.
Note: "Aloque" is a light red wine, especially because it has been mixed with some white wine.
