THE KINDOM OF THE DRUNKARDS (fragment)

A kingdom once had so many drunkards
That they could all be considered as such,
In which a law was passed:
No one was to taste the wine.
This law was welcomed cheerfully for it was free,
But putting it into effect was a different matter.
However, in the end what happened was
They made something different of it,
Believing it was only red wine that was forbidden
They gaily
Got tipsy on white wine.

El dilema que plantea Campoamor, entre vino blanco y tinto, hoy sería trilema al entrar en
juego el rosado.
El problema es reciente. Por ejemplo, en tiempos de Cristo, no se hablaba de este tema.
Y nadie se ha preguntado si, en el mejor de sus milagros, Jesús convirtió el agua en vino
blanco o en tinto. Me inclino hacia que fue blanco; como también el vino de la Última Cena.
Vino blanco es el que consagran los sacerdotes; aunque prefieren el tinto para comer.

The dilemma raised by Campoamor, about white and red wine, will be a trilemma today,
since rosé has come into play.
It is a recent problem. For instance, this topic was not discussed at the time of Christ.
And nobody has wondered whether, in the best of his miracles, Jesus turned water into white
or red wine. I tend to believe it was white; just like the wine of the Last Supper.
White wine is the one consecrated by priests; though they prefer red wine with their meals.
