            ABSTRACT     Globally  tertiary  level  learners  encouraged  to  adapt  into  the  online  educational

            environment. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) is a development of online education where

            all  of  the  content  is  delivered  online.  It  has  been  instilled  habits  among  tertiary  learners  that

            traditional  teaching  method  is  appropriate  for  teaching  and  learning  which  created  lack  of
            awareness on the importance and benefits of online education. Hence, MOOC has introduced to

            Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) undergraduates in order to ease the transformation into

            online learning. The purpose of this study was to identify the potential and challenges of MOOC
            towards gaining knowledge and skills in Teaching Writing in an ESL Context. This study employed

            mixed-method  research  design  using  adapted  online  survey  questionnaire  and  open-ended

            responses to collect data. Total of 46 participants was involved in this study. Survey Monkey was

            used to analyze data descriptively and supported by students' responses. The findings of this study

            were divided two main themes which are potential and challenges of using MOOC for Teaching
            Writing in an ESL Context. The results of this study had exposed the learners on the importance

            and benefits of online learning. Overall, this study indicated that using MOOC for teaching and

            learning  particularly  for  this  course  had  greatly  contributed  to  its'  learners  and  MOOC  is  an
