5-115 Do not lay a portable electric saw, chain saw, air tool, grinder or
other power tools down while it is running.
GRINDING WHEELS (5-200)
5-200 Keep the tool rest installed and in proper adjustment at all times;
never allow more than 1/8 inch space between the tool rest and
the wheel. If applicable, the tongue guard will be kept at a
minimum of 1/4 inch space from the wheel.
5-201 Wheel guard must cover the spindle, nut and flange and 75% of
the wheel.
5-202 Do not adjust the tool rest while the machine is in motion.
5-203 Wear safety glasses and face shield when using a portable or
bench grinder, safety glasses alone are not acceptable.
5-204 Only use a grinder when you can clearly see that others will not
be in danger of injury, and flying sparks will not contact
combustible/flammable materials.
5-205 Inspect grinding wheel for cracks and other hazards before use
and remove badly worn, undersized or out-of-balance wheels
from service.
5-206 Use a pair of pliers or a tool holder when grinding small objects;
never hold them with your fingers.
5-207 Avoid striking the grinding wheel a side blow when grinding any
object.
5-208 Do not use the side of a grinding wheel as a grinding surface.
5-209 Match grinding wheel or disc rpm recommendations to bench or
portable grinders.
5-210 Before mounting a wheel, "ring test" it by tapping it gently with a
non-metallic item such as a wooden screwdriver handle. A
sound wheel will give a clear metallic tone
5-211 Do not grind soft metals or plastics.
HAND TOOLS (5-300)
5-300 Inspect hand tools before use and discard damaged tools or tag
them until they can be repaired.
5-301 Maintain all tools in good condition, use the right tool for the job,
and use it properly.
5-302 Store tools in their proper place when not in use.
