5-303 Do not alter or modify tools. Use tools according to manufacturer’s
instructions.
5-304 Use a pouch or tool belt when carrying sharp or pointed tools;
otherwise, make certain all sharp edges and pointed ends are
covered.
5-305 Pull on wrenches with a steady pressure, do not jerk or snap. If you
have to push on a wrench, use the open palm.
5-306 Exert the pressure toward the movable jaw of an adjustable wrench.
5-307 Do not use a pipe extension (cheater bar) on a wrench.
5-308 Stand to one side when you are pulling down on wrenches from
above your head.
5-309 Do not hammer on wrenches unless they are designed for it.
5-310 Do not strike hardened metal with a hard-blow hammer. This will
cause shrapnel to fly that can cause serious injury.
5-311 Repair or replace defective tools.
5-312 Do not point a screwdriver toward your body because it may slip and
cause injury.
5-313 Do not hammer on a screwdriver as you would a chisel.
5-314 Do not use a screwdriver as a pry bar.
5-315 Place a handle on files before use.
5-316 When using pry bars, be sure the bite is secure; be sure you are
balanced to prevent a fall if the bar slips.
5-317 Use a drift pin or similar device for aligning holes.
