6-100 Do not smoke, use open flames, or create sparks within 25 feet
of combustible or flammable liquids including storage tanks,
battery charging stations or where warning signs are posted.
6-101 Do not step or jump across the grease pit. Always use a cover or
barricade when the pit is not in use.
6-102 Maintain sufficient ventilation when running engines in closed or
poorly ventilated spaces.
6-103 Do not fuel internal gasoline combustion engine-driven
equipment while its engine is running.
6-104 Do not use trouble lights that are not equipped with a guard that
protects the bulb.
6-105 Do not smoke, weld or use spark producing equipment while
fueling.
6-106 When transferring flammable liquids from tanks to smaller
containers, ensure that the smaller container is placed on the
ground.
6-107 Follow the “Lockout Tagout and Blockout Procedures” when
repairing or maintaining any mobile equipment . Use safety
devices (safety pin, arm block, cribbing, brakes, chocks, etc.) to
secure all equipment before permitting anyone to perform work
on them.
6-108 Cover oil spills with oil absorbent material and clean spills
immediately. Follow proper disposal procedures.
6-109 Wear a face shield, rubber gloves, and apron when handling
acids or caustics.
6-110 Emergency eye wash stations capable of providing 15 minutes of
continuous eye wash shall be present and maintained in shops.
6-111 For vehicle maintenance always deflate the tire to 15 psi prior to
removing the tire and rim assembly from the vehicle.
6-112 For tire repair, deflate the tire and remove the valve core prior to
repairing.
6-113 Use a stand-off inflation device and stand at least 21’ away from
the tire facing the tread. Stand-off inflation device must be
equipped with a clip-on chuck, in-line momentary valve with a
pressure gauge.
