10-111 Protect yourself from welding flashes that cause burns to the
body. Never wear clothing with rips or tears. Cover all exposed
skin before welding.
10-112 Check your immediate area for fire hazards before starting hot
work. Use and adhere to “Hot Work Permit” procedures where
required.
10-113 Coil-wrap and inspect welding leads and hang them properly
when not in use.
10-114 Turn off gas and oxygen cylinders after completion of the job
and bleed the lines.
10-115 DO NOT use oil or grease around or on any part of welding or
cutting apparatus because a trace of oil or grease can cause a
fire or explosion.
10-116 Be sure clothes and gloves are free from grease and oil before
welding or cutting.
10-117 DO NOT use oxygen in pneumatic tools, to blow out lines, or to
dust off clothing or as a source of air supply to respirator.
10-118 DO NOT convert a fuel regulator into one for oxygen or vice
versa. The same applies to hoses.
10-119 DO NOT use a gas cylinder without an appropriate pressure
regulator/gauge. Regulators/valves attached to containers must
be guarded.
10-120 DO NOT stand directly in front of a regulator when you are
turning on a compressed gas cylinder valve.
10-121 DO NOT use a worn, patched or over-spliced hose that may
leak or cause excessive loss of pressure.
10-122 DO NOT test for gas leaks with a flame. Use soap and water.
10-123 Make sure the cylinder cap is on the cylinder when stored.
10-124 DO NOT let any spark or arc touch cylinders.
10-125 DO NOT light cigarettes, pipes, or cigars with welding or cutting
torch.
10-126 Keep yourself insulated from nearby ground or metal objects
when changing electrodes.
10-127 Maintain adequate ventilation at all times when welding. Use
natural, dilution (box fans) or local exhaust fans (RamFan) when
welding or cutting. A Positive Pressure Air Respirator (PAPR)
should be considered in tight or confined locations.
