10-128 Light a torch with a friction lighter. Never light a torch with a match or
cigarette lighter.
10-129 Turn off torch before laying it down.
10-130 Disconnect pressure regulators from cylinders and use protective
storage caps when you are transporting them on a public highway or
street.
10-131 Keep the oxygen and acetylene hoses out of the path of other
workers or falling materials. If the flow of gases is disturbed, a
flashback may occur in the hose causing it to ignite and burn.
10-132 Either remove or protect combustible materials at the welding site
from flames, sparks, and molten metal and falling materials.
10-133 Do not hold the slack in a hose between your legs.
10-134 Close all valves of empty cylinders and store empty cylinders in a
designated storage area.
10-135 Keep cylinders away from the actual welding or cutting operation so
that sparks, hot slag or flame will not reach them. Otherwise use fire-
resistant shields.
10-136 DO NOT lay welding or cutting work on cylinders.
10-137 DO NOT use a cylinder for a roller or for any other purpose.
10-138 DO NOT drop cylinders or allow them to bump violently.
10-139 Keep sparks, flames and oil/grease away from cylinders at all times.
Keep cylinders away from electrical wires and equipment.
10-140 DO NOT use a sling when hoisting cylinders. Use a cradle or box.
10-141 DO NOT use a torch as a hammer or lever to move work. Never use
a torch for any purpose other than its intended purpose.
10-142 Use only approved connectors to repair broken hoses.
10-143 DO NOT use leaky or defective regulators, torches, or hoses.
Remove them from service and report defective apparatus to your
supervisor at once.
10-144 DO NOT attempt to repair faulty gauges. Remove from service and
turn them in to your supervisor for repair or replacement.
10-145 DO NOT leave torches lying around after a job is completed. Coil the
hoses and store them where they are clear of other workers and
falling objects and materials.
10-146 Do not block access to the tops of the cylinders. Make sure that they
are accessible so that you can quickly close the valves, if needed.
