PRACTICES EMPLOYED BY THE MIDVIVES IN THE PREVENTION
OF POST PARTUM HEMORRHAGE

This research aimed to identify the practices employed by the midwives in the prevention
of postpartum hemorrhage at selected rural health units in Rosales, Urdaneta, and Villasis. The
researcher conducted this study according to the practices employed by the midwives in the
prevention of Postpartum Hemorrhage along Prenatal, Intranatal, Poatnatal and to identify the
problems encountered in the management of postpartum hemorrhage.
The findings were as follows: 1.Respondents profile in terms of age, civil status,
highest educational attainment, monthly income, number of years in service and relevant
trainings attended related to maternal health care in the past two years. There are 30(60.00%)
respondents who belong to the age 40 years and above, 13(26.00%) belong to the age 36-40
years old, 5(10.00%) belongs to age 31-35 years old, 2(4.00%) belong to 26-30 years old.
Based on civil status, majority of the respondents were married with a frequency of 31(62.00%)
while only 4(8.00%) are single. Moreover, in terms of highest educational attainment, most
of the respondents have diploma in midwifery with a frequency of 41(82.00%) while only 1
(2.00%) obtained a masters’ degree. In terms of monthly income most the respondents earned
a monthly income of 20,000php and above with a frequency of 42(84.00%); 7(14.00) of them
are earning 16,000-20,000php monthly and only 1(2.00%) are earning about 5,000-10,000php
monthly. Majority of the respondents have been in the service for 16 years and above with a
frequency of 31 or 62.00 percent; 11 or 22.00 percent were already employed for 11-15 years;
7 0r 14.00 percent were in the service for 6-10 years while 1 or 2.00 percent were working in
the field for 1-5 years. Based on relevant trainings attended, most of them had under gone 6
and above trainings and seminars related to maternal health care in the past 2 years with a
frequency of 40 or 80 percent; 6 or 12.00 percent attended at least 4-5 while only 2 or 4 percent
had 0-1 trainings attended.
Based on the results of the study, the researcher arrived at the following conclusions:
1.) The respondents are mostly in the middle adulthood stage, married, who have attained
diploma in midwifery belonging to high income group and have been working for 16 years
and above and attended 6 and above relevant trainings related to maternal health care in the
past two years.2.) The midwives highly practiced the practices employed in the prevention of
postpartum hemorrhage as evidence by the overall weighted mean gathered.3.) The respondents
slightly encountered the problems encountered in the management of postpartum Hemorrhage.
