in this study. The research conducted an interview guided questionnaire. The frequency counts
and percentages were the statistical tools used to treat the commonalities of data and come up
       with analysis and interpretation.
The findings revealed that: 1) the respondent-nurses are predominantly females,
mostly belonging to the age bracket of 23-31 years old, singles, holds a BSN degree, working as
volunteer nurse, hospital experience within the 1- 5 years and do not have adequate relevant
       seminars/trainings. 2) The respondents obtained a grand OWM of 3.786, equivalent to”Extensive”
in the area of hand hygiene; grand OWM of 3.837 (Extensive) in the first area of standard
precautions/ transmission-based precautions, “contact”; grand OWM of 3.611 (Extensive) for
“droplets”, and grand OWM of 3.689 (Extensive) for “airborne.”
The pooled Grand OWM for the practices of the respondent-nurses in the standard
precautions/ transmission-based precautions is 3.714, equivalent to “Extensive.” 3) The variable,
age is a source of variation in the extent of practice of the respondent-nurses, in the area
of “droplets”, “airborne” and OWM of standard precautions/ transmission-based precautions,
but not in the rest. No significant differences were found in the extent of practice of nurses
in the prevention of nosocomial infections, with respect to the variables, namely: sex, civil
status, highest educational attainment, and position, length of hospital service, and relevant
seminars / trainings. 4) The extent of practices of the respondent-nurses in some areas the of
the prevention of nosocomial infections are correlated the variable, age, in at least two areas
of prevention of nosocomial infections; correlated with the variable, civil status; correlated with
position, length of hospital service, and relevant seminars/trainings.
Based on the findings and conclusion presented, the researcher arrived at the following
recommendations: 1) the respondent-nurses should be enrolled in reputable and pursue higher
degree. The Philippine Nurses Association should endeavor to develop policy to prevent
exploitation of RNs, in the guise of further training. as voluntary nurses. 2) There should be more
in-house trainings for nurses, on the standard precautions/ transmission-based precautions,
and other updates in the prevention of nosocomial infections. 3) Health care centers and
hospitals administrators should consider and prioritize hiring young RNs, since, the variable,
age, differentiates the extent of practices of nurses in the prevention of nosocomial infections,
and in favor of the young nurses. 4) Government, specifically the Department of Health (DOH)
should create more opportunities for nurses to hired and paid salaries commensurate to their
qualification and levels of competence, so that there would be no need to export this sector of
       health professionals.
