COMPLIANCE OF NURSES ON CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
                                   MAGELLINE G. LIM

This study focused on the compliance of nurses on continuing professional education
to enhance their competence in the performance of their tasks at Nazareth General Hospital, a
tertiary hospital located in Dagupan City, Pangasinan. The respondents of this study included
the staff nurses in the said hospital. The constructed questionnaire was the main data gathering
       tool of this study.
The data gathered for the constructed questionnaire was substantiated by the responses
of the respondents to the unstructured interview conducted by the researcher. The comparative
hypothesis was tested with Analysis of Variance and t-test. The computed F-values and t-value
were compared with critical t-values at 0.05 level of significance. The correlational hypotheses
were tested with Pearson product-moment correlation equation. The lone comparative hypothesis
       was tested with t-test.
The following were the salient findings of this study: The nurses at Nazareth General
Hospital are both young and old are males and females, single, married and widow. Findings
revealed that majority are registered nurses, other here earned unit in a master’s course, while
others are graduates in a master’s degree in nursing. Half of the nurses have been working in
the hospital for 5 years or less, others for 6 to 10 years and a handful of them for 11 years or
       more.
Most of the nurses had attended trainings in the local level, almost half of them in
national level, but only a few in international levels. The nurses had no compliance to CPE
activities in the international level, slight compliance in the national level, but had high to very
high compliance in the local level. The nurses enumerated highly serious to very highly serious
problems as they comply to CPE. The nurses did not significantly differ when they were grouped
according to age, civil status, highest educational attainment, length in service.
The following conclusions were drawn from the collated findings:. The nurses complied
to CPE whenever possible and affordable and encountered problems as they comply as well as
to profile variables are not significantly related.
This study strongly suggests the following: The staff nurses can enhance their
professional attributes by pursuing higher education, acquire more years of experience in hospital
and attending relevant trainings and seminars. The staff nurses should search for workable
solutions that can minimize their problems as they comply with CPE.
The hospital administration of Nazareth General Hospital should provide more concrete
and effective assistance to staff nurses to enable them to consistently comply to CPE, such as:
giving all staff nurses equal chances and giving generous financial assistance to those who will
attend/ participate in CPE activities, to defray some, if not all, their expenses giving credit points,
incentive and possible promotions to those who regularly attend/participate in CPE activities.
