married and only had finished their secondary education. Majority of the medical personnel
are in their young adulthood. Majority of the employees are also female and single. They are
Bachelor’s Degree Holders and have been in the service for 1-3 years. The patient-respondents
are moderately knowledgeable on the causes of HPV infection due to lack of resources
to obtain valuable information. The medical personnel are knowledgeable on the causes of
human papilloma virus. The patient respondents are also moderately knowledgeable whereas
the medical personnel are knowledgeable. The employees were knowledgeable on the medical
management of HPV infections while the patients are moderately knowledgeable. The familiarity
on the prevention of HPV was more widespread with medical personnel as they were highly
knowledgeable although the clienteles were knowledgeable. The overall extent of knowledge
of the Respondents on HPV is knowledgeable. The medical personnel have a higher extent of
knowledge on human papilloma virus as compared to the patients on the extent of knowledge
as to causes, signs and symptoms, management, prevention, and overall extent of knowledge
on human papilloma virus.
The following were the conclusions: The patient respondents are mostly female since
the patients are mostly obstetrics and gynecology cases; in their reproductive age, and are
married and only had finished their secondary education while employees were mostly female
because the nursing profession is dominated by female gender, in their reproductive age, and
are married with Bachelor’s Degree. The patients are moderately knowledgeable on Human
Papilloma virus while the Medical Personnel are knowledgeable.
Nonetheless, in general, the respondents were knowledgeable on the causes, signs
and symptoms, management, and prevention of Human Papilloma virus. The medical personnel
have a higher extent of knowledge on human papilloma virus due to their higher educational
attainment as compared to the patients on the extent of knowledge as to causes, signs and
symptoms, management, prevention, and overall extent of knowledge on human papilloma
virus. Young adults are more knowledgeable on the causes of HPV than the older patients. The
patients with higher educational attainment are more knowledgeable on Human Papilloma virus.
Female employees appear to be more knowledgeable on the prevention human papilloma virus
than their male counterpart.
The following recommendations were considered as a result of the study: The hospital
personnel should include a dissemination material on Human Papilloma virus in the mother’s
class in the pre-natal program of the hospital to enhance the understanding of the patients
regarding the Human Papilloma virus. The staff should pursue higher degree of learning so as to
contribute more to the institution’s achievement of their vision, mission, goals, and objectives.
Training of Hospital Personnel especially among women must be done to cater women’s health
and well-being (i.e. Pap smear tests, health education, and affordable vaccination). Evaluation of
the patient care services on the program should be done in a regular basis in order to assess if
the satisfaction is achieved or not. A parallel study should be conducted to determine the extent
of knowledge on Human Papilloma virus with a more diverse group of respondents like males,
the patients’ immediate relatives and wider locus of the study.
