                                        DEBORAH D. LUCERO

This study determined the extent of patients’ satisfaction on the services rendered by
the hemodialysis nurses before, during and after hemodialysis and managing complications.
It dealt on the respondent’s profile in terms of their age, sex, civil status, highest educational
attainment, monthly family income, medical diagnosis, year diagnosed and number of years
undergoing dialysis. It focus on the extent of patients’ satisfaction on the services rendered by
the hemodialysis nurses along—before, during and after dialysis and in managing complications.
It also dealt on the problems encountered by the respondents on the services rendered by the
hemodialysis nurses along attitude of personnel, services rendered and facilities.
Descriptive research design was utilized in the study using questionnaire as the main gathering
tool. Statistical tools include frequent counts, percentages, weighted mean, t-test and ANOVA.
Based on the data gathered, the following are the findings of the study. Majority of
the respondents are in the age bracket of 51-70 years of age, male, college graduate, with a
monthly family income of p3,000 and below; diagnosed with hypertension and most of them
were diagnosed in the year2004 and earlier and mostly undergoing dialysis for one year and
below. On the extent of patients’ satisfaction on the services rendered by the hemodialysis
nurses before, during and after dialysis and in managing complications, it was found out to be
satisfied. On the problems encountered by the respondents on the services rendered by the
hemodialysis nurses along attitude of personnel, services rendered and facilities, it was found
out to be slightly satisfied. On the significant differences on the extent of patients’ satisfaction on
the services rendered by the hemodialysis nurses across their profile variables, it was found out
to be not significant. A proposed program to improve the patients’ satisfaction on the services
rendered by the hemodialysis nurse was prepared.
Based on the conclusions, recommendations were made to offer. The respondents
should submit for a regular treatment and dialysis procedure for a quality of life. Patients should
give a regular feedback to improve the services of the hemodialysis nurses. And having a monthly
patient’ classes strengthen the nurse-patient relationship. The respondents must submit for
continuous treatment by being cooperative to the nurse advises. And proposed program can be
adopted and implemented after approval from the hospital directors.
Future studies can be replicated in a wide perspective. Based on the findings, the
study concluded that the respondents are in their late adulthood stage of their life, finished their
bachelor’s degree, earning a low salary, having the disease for more than 10 years and submitted
for treatment a year or less. The patients perceived that they received the right services for the
hemodialysis nurses. And they perceived that there are things to be considered so that they are
satisfied in the services to be rendered to them. The demographic profile of the respondents has
no bearing on their perception on the services rendered by the hemodialysis nurses. And for the
implementation in the hospitals, the proposed program can be adopted.

                                                                                     66
