instrument is a questionnaire checklist for the emergency room nurses included 30 emergency
room nurses in a government hospital in San Carlos City. Analyses of the collected data were
done through the various statistical tools such as frequency counts, percentages, weighted
means, t-Test and analysis of variance (ANOVA).
Based on the data gathered, majority of the respondents were aged 26-30 years old,
female, single, with masteral units, Roman Catholics, 6-12 months in their length of service
in the emergency room and having less than 5 seminars attended relative to care of patient
with impairment. The nursing care management applied to patients with impairment along
emergency interventions obtained which is equivalent to the transmuted rating of “always”
especially on getting the necessary consent from the watcher for any procedure to be done,
administration of intravenous fluid and medications ordered by the physician and performing
skin testing before a drug is administered. The methods employed by the emergency room
nurses in handling difficulties in caring for patients with impairment obtained a transmuted
rating of “always” and referral to the attending physician untoward manifestations for further
management. A significant difference existed in the nursing care management applied by the
emergency room nurses to patients with impairment along emergency interventions across age,
client education in civil status, length of service, and number of relevant seminars attended.
Based on the findings, the conclusions were drawn. The emergency room nurses being
in their middle adulthood, female dominated, relatively new in the service with a limited number
of relevant seminars. The older the emergency room nurse, the more experiences she/he has
in nursing care management. The nurses were aware of their role when a client is admitted
and always rely on the doctors’ order before any drug administration. Nurses were aware of
untoward manifestations and for further management the doctor is there to give orders to treat
the manifestations. Nurses who had been in the service for a longer period perceived to be
giving more better nursing care management and giving client education.
Based on the conclusions made the following recommendations are offered. The
respondents must continuously update themselves with the care of patients with impairment by
attending seminars and trainings relevant to the care. The respondents should always be aware
of their legal responsibilities to avoid problems. They must enhance their knowledge to be alert
on the manifestations presented by patients with impairment. Since majority of the respondents
were young adults, they must continue giving quality care and interventions to their patients.
