include their age, sex, civil status, highest educational attainment, monthly family income
and position and significant others profile like their age, sex, civil status, highest educational
attainment, number of years with the patient and relationship to the patient. It also focused on
the lived experiences of the nurses and significant others along physical, emotional and mental
       aspect.
It looked into the problems encountered by the nurses and significant others along
patients, hospital facilities and services and family. Moreover, it dealt on the coping mechanisms
employed by the nurses and significant others along physical, social, psychological and spiritual
aspect. Descriptive research design was used in the study utilizing different statistical tools like
frequency counts and percentage and the weighted mean.
Based on the data gathered, the following are the findings of the study. Most of the
nurse respondents are in the age bracket of 21-25 years old, females, single, bachelor’s degree
holder, earning below 10,000 pesos and hemodialysis nurses. While the significant others are
mostly in their forties and above, female, married, college graduates, being with the patient
for less than a year and mostly their father who is undergoing hemodialysis. On the lived
experiences of the nurse respondents in the care of hemodialysis patients, it was found out
along physical, emotional and mental to be often experienced and for the significant others it
was always experienced. On the problems encountered by the nurses and significant others
along patients, facilities or services and family it was found out to be encountered “Sometimes”.
On the coping mechanisms employed, both the nurses and significant others rated to be “Often”.
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions are drawn. The nurse
respondents are young, had graduated few years back in their course and didn’t pursue masteral
level and earning a very low income and pursued training on hemodialysis while the significant
others are adults, female dominated, graduates of bachelor’s degree, caring their patient mostly
heads of families for few years. The significant others were more affected in the care of their
patients undergoing hemodialysis compared to the nurses. There are instances wherein the
nurses and significant others encounter problems related to the dialysis of patients. Both the
nurses and the significant others used different coping mechanisms in the care of their patients
       undergoing hemodialysis.
Based on the conclusions made, the following recommendations are offered: The
nurse respondents must continually update their knowledge in hemodialysis and to pursue
higher learning for development. The significant others must be trained in the care of patients
undergoing dialysis to be more knowledgeable in caring their patients. Nurses must continually
give the best care for their patients for them to live longer. The significant others must be
oriented on the procedure itself for them to know what really are the advantages of dialysis
to their patients. Both the nurses and significant others must think positively that undergoing
dialysis will help improve the patient’s condition. Using other coping techniques to avoid further
stress necessary. Future studies should be conducted to other patients with other types of
       dialysis in a wider perspective.
