A great majority of the respondents were aged 21 to 25 years old, females, single finished
their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, worked as triage nurses for 1 to 3 years and had
1 to 3 trainings attended and only few had more than seven training in triaging. In line with
the assessment made by the triage nurses which was validated by senior nurses and nurse
supervisors, they performed several decision making skills moderately extensive, they performed
emergency assessment moderately extensive, the triage nurses performed prioritization highly
extensive, as to the emergency care skills, they perform several emergency care procedures
highly extensive.
The computed f-value as to decision making skills, emergency assessment skills,
prioritization skills and for emergency care skills are higher than the tabulated value of 2.37 at
0.05 level of significance with 5 and 59 degrees of freedom, the null hypothesis is rejected in
favor of the research hypothesis. With respect to their gender, the computed value for emergency
assessment skills (and emergency care skills are higher than the tabulated value of 8.18 at 0.05
level of significance with 1 and 19 degrees of freedom, the null hypothesis is rejected while the
computed value for decision making skills and prioritization skills are lower than the tabulated
value of 8.18 at 0.05 level of significance with 1 and 19 degrees of freedom, the null hypothesis
is accepted.
In line with civil status, the computed value for emergency assessment skills,
prioritization skills and emergency care skills are higher than the tabulated value of 8.18 at 0.05
level of significance with 1 and 19 degrees of freedom, the null hypothesis is rejected in favor
of the research hypothesis while the computed value for decision making skills is lower than
the tabulated value of 8.18 at 0.05 level of significance with 1 and 19 degrees of freedom, the
null hypothesis is accepted. As to educational attainment, the computed value for emergency
assessment skills prioritization skills and emergency care skills are higher than the tabulated
value of 2.61 at 0.05 level of significance with 4 and 49 degrees of freedom, the null hypothesis
is rejected and the computed value for decision making skills is lower than the tabulated value
of 2.61 at 0.05 level of significance with 4 and 49 degrees of freedom, the null hypothesis is
accepted.
Based on the findings, the researcher concludes that the triage nurses assigned in the
emergency department of Region I Medical Center are BSN graduate and have attended 1 to
3 training in line with triaging. The triage nurses assessed their own skills on the four aspects
as moderately skilled as evidenced by most results of having moderately performed. The triage
nurses assessed themselves and found out that they are moderately skilled in prioritizing and
caring patient in the emergency department. The proposed program is hereby prepared to
implement after approval of the COH. The researcher therefore recommends that the hospital
institutions are recommended to provide at least free trainings, seminars and orientations needed
for the development of care to be rendered to patient visiting in the ED. For the emergency
triage nurses, they must pursue their continuing education for them to acquire more knowledge,
academically. The proposed program is for adaptation and implementation. Highly recommend
that another study maybe conducted using other variables for the improvement of triage skills.
