Based on the findings of the study the following are the conclusions; 1) majority of the
respondents of the study in terms of nurses are female, single and in their early adulthood.
They are working in the intensive care unit for a span of one year with a Bachelors Degree.
While in terms of significant other respondents most of them are married and college graduate
that belong to the age bracket 40 to 49 years old. 2) The nurse respondents are generally highly
practicing the extent of nursing care to intensive care unit clients along bedside care, medication
administration and referral system. They are confident on how they render quality nursing care
to their patients. 3) With regards to the level of satisfaction of significant others towards the
nursing care rendered to their relative confined in ICU and also to them, the study showed that
the respondent are only satisfied and gave an overall rating of “good”. Five (5) respondents
suggest that there must be an area for them to stay which is near in the ICU.
The recommendations are as follows: 1) As the level of extent of practice of nursing
care rendered is highly practiced there is not much needed to improve the practice of rendering
nursing care to patients when it comes to bed side care, medication administration and referral
system. 2) On the level of satisfaction of significant others, the hospital administration must
consider the suggestions with regards in putting an area where the relatives of the ICU patients
can stay for easy communication when something is needed since watchers are not allowed to
stay inside the ICU premises. This will enable the nurse to communicate effectively to watchers
for them to ensure full understanding regarding the treatments and procedures that needs
to be done in order to assure quality care and also to avoid delays. 3) To overall improve the
services in the intensive care unit for them to have an “outstanding” rating. Since majority of the
respondent-watcher gave a rating of “good”, additional trainings such as proper and thorough
assessment for ICU nurses must be provided for them to know the factors that could influence
patient and watcher satisfaction. Consequently, quality work includes investigations that map out
satisfaction with nursing care that includes assessing eight domains that have an influence on
watchers satisfaction namely; (1) the socio-demographic background of the significant others,
(2) expectations regarding nursing care, (3) physical environment, (4) communication and
information, (5) participation and involvement of watchers to the nursing care, (6) interpersonal
relationship between the nurse and the watcher, (7) nurse’s medical-technical competence and
the ability to render quality care, and lastly (8) the influence of the health care organization on
both watchers and nurses.
