Marketing Is All The Same Right?
Umm, that would be a no! Everything that is referred to as
'marketing' these days is not necessarily marketing at all. It's mostly
just advertising in disguise. I don't mean to get too technical on you
here, but allow me to explain what I mean real quick.
Marketing is de ned as: a process that involves design, creation, and
research into how to best align the idea of a product or service with
a target audience.
Marketing is not just a tactic, marketing is a process that consists of
strategies and tactics combined. But it's not de ned solely as a
'tactic' by itself. I know it sounds like splitting hairs here, but the two
skill sets are not the same. Marketers that are worth their salt are
pro cient in both skill sets, not just one of them.
I say this to say that most of what is passed o as "marketing" today
is just people selling tactics with no strategy behind it, (aka
advertising). Advertising is a component of marketing, but
advertising by itself is not marketing. Advertising without a game
plan is just like throwing mud against the wall and hoping that it
sticks.
This is why a lot of "marketing agencies" fail to get results for their
clients because they only have half of the expertise required to
make their campaigns pro table.
