7. Soft Durian
For those of you who like durian, maybe you should try this durian preparation, durian lempuk.
This typical Riau food is made from durian which looks like lunkhead.
Besides Riau, you can also find this durian lempuk in other areas on the island of Sumatra.
Lempuk durian has become an icon of Bengkalis. So, if you visit Bengkalis, don't forget to buy
durian lempuk for family gifts at home.
8. Sago Noodles
While noodles are usually made from wheat flour, typical Riau noodles are made from sago.
This noodle is a typical food in Riau, precisely in Selatpanjang, Tebing Tinggi, Meranti Islands.
When viewed from the shape, this sago noodle is similar to lethek noodles from the city of Jogja.
9. Cencaluk
Cencaluk is one type of side dish which is a traditional Malay food. Cencaluk is made from
finely ground shrimp, and of course it is quite high in protein.
Characteristics of the Malays
The Malay tribal community is included in a tribe that has characteristics that are quite
obvious when compared to other tribes. The most prominent characteristic is in the dialect of the
language which is so distinctive. In addition, the Malay community is also known as a society that
is mostly Muslim and upholds etiquette and manners. Due to the strong influence of Islam among
the Malay community, this has resulted in many loanwords being taken from Arabic. Of course,
this characteristic further shows that the Malay community does have a uniqueness that is different
from other ethnic groups.
