ST-44 Steering System- Power Steering
Check on car
1. Pressure test and adjustment of the power steering pump
a. Disconnect the connector ②, and install a pressure
gauge with a range of 15 MPa in-between. Turn on ④ to its full
openness, start the engine and make it run at a stable and low
speed. Turn off the switch ④ gradually till it is completely
closed. Observe the readings of the pressure gauge.

b. If the pressure gauge indicates a pressure of (13±1.3)
MPa, then oil pump functions properly. If the pump
pressure cannot meet the specified value, it means that
the pump is damaged and the assembly shall be replaced.
2. Checking the steering fluid
a. When the engine is off, check the fluid level inside the
fluid tank if it is between the “MAX” and “MIN” marks.
If the fluid level is lower than the “MIN” mark, add
steering fluid into the tank.
b. When the engine is running, the fluid level inside the
fluid tank shall be 1~2cm higher than that of when the
engine is not running.
3. Adjusting free clearance of the steering wheel
a. Disconnect the connector②, connect a pressure gauge with
a range of 1 MPa between the power steering pump and
steering gear tube line, and turn on ④ to its full openness.

b. Lift and support the front axle of the vehicle and place
a steel bench beneath. Keep the engine running at a stable
and low speed. Put the wheel into straight travel position.
c. Now the measured value of the unloaded cyclic
pressure of the system shall be 0.5MPa approx.
