Universal joints

Check and repair
Caution

The repair methods for transmission shaft universal joints are the same, this section only presents
the repair method for the rear transmission shaft universal joint as an example.
1. Remove the transmission shaft assembly (see Chapter AX Axles, T ransmission Shafts - T ransmission
Shaft - Transmission Shaft, Service)

2. Make assembly markings
a. Make assembly markings on the transmission shaft
flange fork and the universal joint fork.
Caution

The assembly markings should be in the same
level, and the installation should be
performed in accordance with the markings.

3. Disassemble universal joint assembly

a. Remove the circlip on all the four sides of the cross
shaft with circlip plier.

b. Use a hammer to knock on the flange fork to remove
the cross shaft needle bearings.
Caution

As the bearing is fitted very closely, knocking on
the flange fork evenly with a hammer.

c. Use a hammer to knock the other side of the flange
fork to remove the other needle bearing and flange fork.

d. Strike out the cross shaft in the transmission shaft with
a copper rod and remove the needle bearings.
Caution
As the bearing is fitted very closely, knocking on
both sides of cross shaft evenly with a copper rod.

e. Rotate the transmission shaft, stike out the other needle
bearing on the other end with a copper rod using the
same method.
