and placed it in the reeds ¹e£qÔaóÓN'ÖzÔî

Each man with his household who came with Yaakov. :eêÞÖaB£³−Ñëe L−'ÌêëÒ flšÎ¼ÞÔ−³¤Ñê near the bank of the river. :þÒ ÞêÐ−Ôí³'ÔõÐN-ñÔ¼

Tar on the outside and clay on the inside, ,ó−ÌòÐõÌaÌô¬−̬Ðî ±eìÔaÌô³ÓõÓï
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RASHI é"ùø AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA so that the righteous [child] should not have to smell š−ÌcÔ® B³Bê Ôì−ÌþÖ−êHÓL−ÑðÐk

Though [Scripture] has previously enumerated them öÖêÖòÐnÓL−ÌtñÔ¼¹Ôê
¹e½ means marshland [on the side of a river], ,óÔèÎê öBLÐñ êeí
during their lifetime óÓí−ÑiÔìÐa
rosel (reeds) in Old French, ,ïÔ¼ÔñÐa ñ"−−¾îþ
by their names, 1 ,óÖ³BôÐLÌa
similar to “reeds and marshes (¹e½) shall wilt.” 12 :eñÑôÖš ¹e½ÖîíÓòÖšBñíÓôBðÐî
it again enumerates them at their deaths. ,óÖ³Ö³−ÌôÐaóÖêÖòÐôe þÔïÖì
[5] To bathe by the river. .øÉàÀéÇäìÇòõÉçÀøÄì [ä]
[This is] to show how dear they are [to God], ,óÖ³ÖaÌìÔ¼−ÌðBíÐñ
You must transpose [words in] the verse êÖþКÌnÔí½ÑþÖ½
because they are compared to the stars ,ó−ÌëÖ×BkÔñeñÐLÐôÌpÓL
and [then] explain it [as follows]: :eíÑLÐþÖõe
which He brings out and brings in óÖ½−ÌòÐ×Ôôe óÖê−Ì®BnÓL
“Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the river þÒêÐ−ÔíñÔ¼íÒ¼ÐþÔt³ÔaðÓþÑzÔî
by number and by their [individual] names; ,óÖ³BôÐLÌëe þÖtнÌôÐa
in order to bathe in it.” :Ba ±ÒìÐþÌñ
as it is said: “Who brings out their host by number, óÖêÖëЮþÖtнÌôÐaê−Ì®BnÔíþÔôÍêÓpÓL
and calls each by its name.” 2 :êÖþКÌ−óÑLÐaóÖlŠ×Ðñ Along the river’s edge. .øÉàÀéÇäãÇé-ìÇò
[Meaning:] near the river, ,þBêÐ−ÔíñÓ®Ñê
[5] Yoseif [who] was [already] in Egypt. .íÄéÞÈøÀöÄîÀáäÈéÈäóÅñBéÀå [ä]
as in: “See Yoav’s property is next to mine (−ÌðÖ−ñÔ¼).” 13 ,−ÌðÖ−ñÔ¼ëÖêB− ³ÔšÐñÓìeêÐþBôÐk
But, were not he and his sons e−Öíî−ÖòÖëe êeí êGÎíÔî
It has the meaning of the actual hand ,LÖnÔôðÖ− öBLÐñ êeíÐî
included in the seventy? 3 ,ó−̼ÐëÌLñÔñÐ×Ìë
because a person’s hand is next to him. .Bñ íÖ×eôнóÖðÖêÖíðÔiÓL
Then what does [Scripture] intend to teach us? ?eòÑðÐnÔñÐñêÖaíÔôe
Our Sages explained 14 ,eþÐôÖê eò−ѳBaÔþÐî
Would we not know ourselves ó−̼ÐðB− eò−Ì−ÖíêG−Ì×Ðî
that ³B×ÐñBí—walking refers to dying, ,íÖ³−Ìô öBLÐñ "³B×ÐñBí,,
that he was in Egypt? ?óÌ−ÔþЮÌôÐëíÖ−Öí êeíÓL
as in: “Behold, I am going (CÑñBí) to die.” 15 ,³eôÖñCÑñBí −Ì×ÒòÖêíÑpÌíBôÐk
But, [the purpose is] to let you know Eμ−ÌðBíÐñêÖlÓê
They were going to die ³eôÖñ ³B×ÐñBí
how righteous Yoseif was— ,¹Ñ½B− ñÓLB³ÖšÐðÌ®
because they opposed her (Pharaoh’s daughter).” 16 .dÖa eì−ÌnÓL−ÌõÐñ
the same Yoseif who tended his father’s sheep, ,î−ÌëÖêöêÒ®³ÓêíÓ¼BþÖí¹Ñ½B− êeí
The verse supports them (the Sages’ explanation), ,öÖ¼−ÐiÔ½Ðô ëe³ÖkÔíÐî
is the same Yoseif who was in Egypt ,óÌ−ÔþЮÌôÐëíÖ−ÖíÓL¹Ñ½B− êeí
and he became king, ,CÓñÓôíÖNμÔòÐî
