                          as if his blood were sprinkled,  ,šeþÖïBôÖð el−ÌêÐk                               He settled in the wilderness, þ flÖaÐðÌnÔa·ëÓL¶ÑiÔî
                            as if my son were skinned,  ,¬ÖLÐõeô êeí el−ÌêÐk                         [where] he became an expert archer. :³ÞÖMÔší'ÓëÒþ−£ÌíÐ−Ôî

               The plain meaning is as Onkelos translates it:  :BôebÐþÔ³Ð× B¬eLÐt
                                                                                                    They respond to Him: “He is righteous.” 386  .š−ÌcÔ® :Bñ eþÐôÖê
                     God will choose and select this place  íÓfÔí óBšÖnÔí³ÓêBñíÓêÐþÌ−ÐîþÔìÐëÌ−’í
                                                                                                         [Whereupon] He responds to them:  :óÓíÖñþÔôÖê
                         to rest His Holy Presence there  B³Öò−Ì×ÐL Ba ³BþÐLÔíÐñ
                                                                                             “It is according to his present deeds that I judge him.”  ,BòÖð−ÌòÎêî−ÖLÐ×Ô¼ñÓLî−ÖNμÔô−ÌõÐñ

                                                                                                        That is the meaning of “Where he is.”  .óÖL êeí þÓLÎêÔa :eíÓïÐî
                           As it is said [to] this day.  .íBiÇäøÅîÈàÅéøÆLÂà
                                                                                                        Where did they kill Israel with thirst?  ?êÖôÖvÔañÑêÖþоÌ−³Óê³−ÌôÑíöÖ×−ÑíÐî
                  That future generations will say about it,  :î−ÖñÖ¼ ³BþBcÔí−Ñô−ÌñeþÐôêÒiÓL

                    that appears everywhere in Scripture.  ;êÖþКÌnÔíñÖ×ÐaÓL                                     “We beg of you, bring us  eòe×−ÌñBí ,óÓ kÌôíÖLÖwÔëÐa
                       Because all the future generations  ,ó−ÌêÖaÔí ³BþBcÔíñÖkÓL                    to the descendants of our uncle Yishmael  ñêѼÖôÐLÌ−eòÑðBð −ÑòÐañÓ®Ñê
                              who will read this verse  ,íÓfÔíêÖþКÌnÔí³Óêó−Ì êÐþBwÔí                         and they will take pity on us,  ,eò−ÑñÖ¼eôÎìÔþ−Ìî
                              will say “until this day,”  íÓfÔí óBiÔíðÔ¼ó−ÌþÐôBê               as it is said, “you caravans of [ó−ÌòÖðÐc] Dedanites”; 388  ó−ÌòÖðÐc ³BìÐþÒê:þÔôÍêÓpÓL

                          The Midrashic explanation is:  :íÖðÖbÔêLÔþÐðÌôe                  [Whereupon] they [the Yishmaelites] came towards them  óÖ³êÖþКÌñó−ÌêЮB− eñÑêÐî
                     God will see [remember] this akeidah  Bï íÖð−њμíÓêÐþÌ−’í                          bringing them salted meat and fish  Ô ìeñÖôèÖðÐîþÖNÖaóÓíÖñö−Ìê−ÌëÐôe

                         in all the future generations—  ó−ÌêÖaÔí ³BþBcÔíñÖ×Ða                    and then open it, the air would enter his body  BõeèÐa³Ó½ÓòÐ×ÌòÔìeþÖí ,BìгBõe
