 that his father’s servants had dug î− flÌëÖê−¤ÑðÐëÔ¼·eþÐõÞÖìþ¥ÓLÎê  he wailed a most loud and bitter cry, ð¢ÒêÐô-ðÔ¼í£ÖþÖôe í'ÖñÒðÐbí flּ֚Юš¤Ô¼Ð®ÌiÔî
 in the days of his father, Avraham— î−¢ÌëÖêó¤ÖíÖþÐëÔê−£Ñô−Ìa  and he said to his father, î− flÌëÖêÐñþÓôê¤ÒiÔî
 the Philistines plugged them, ó− flÌzÐLÌñÐtóe¤ôÐz̽  “Bless me too, my father.” :−ÞÌëÖê−Ìò£Öê-óÔè−Ìò'Ñ×ÎþÞÖa
 and filled them with earth. :þÞÖõÖ¼óe£êÐñÔôÐ−Ôî  35. [Yitzchok] said, “Your brother came with cunning í¢ÖôÐþÌôÐaE−£ÌìÖêê'ÖaþÓôê–ÕiÔî .íñ
 16. Avimelech said to Yitzchok, š¢ÖìЮÌ−-ñÓêCÓñ£Óô−ÌëÎêþÓôê'ÒiÔî .ï¬  and he took your blessing.” :EÞÓ³Ö×ÐþÌaì £ÔwÌiÔî
 “Go away from us. eò flÖn̼ÞÑôCÑñƒ  36. [Eisov] said, “Is he not rightly called Yaakov? ë†ÒšÎ¼ÞÔ−B‚ôÐLê¶ÖþÖš»−Ì×ÎíþÓôê”ÕiÔî .îñ
 You have become much more powerful than us.” :ð ÞÒêÐôep£ÓnÌôÖzÐô'Ô®Ö¼-−ÞÌk  He has deceived me twice; óÌ− flÔôμÞÔõí¤Óï·−Ìò¶ÑëКмÔiÔî
 17. Yitzchok went away from there. š¢ÖìЮÌ−ó£ÖMÌôCÓñ'ÑiÔî .ï−

 and excavated the wells of water óÌ− †ÔnÔí³¤ÒþÑêÐa-³Óê|þ¤ÒtÐìÔiÔî  and [now] knowingly blessed him.  :BzмÔcÌôB×ÎþÑëe
 which were dug in the days of his father, Avraham, î− flÌëÖêó¤ÖíÖþÐëÔê·−Ñô−Ìa·eþÐõÞÖìþ¥ÓLÎê  [35] With cunning.  .äÈîÀøÄîÀa [äì]
 and were plugged by the Philistines ó− flÌzÐ LÌñÐtóe¤ôÐzÔ½Ð−Ôî  [Meaning] with cleverness. 173  :íÖôÐ×ÖìÐa
 after Avraham’s death. ó¢ÖíÖþÐëÔê³B¤ô−£ÑþÎìÞÔê  [36] Is he not rightly called?  .BîÀLàÈøÈ÷éÄëÂä [åì]
            This [−Ì×Îí] is a term for an incredulous question 174  ,êeí dÖô−Ñz öBLÐñ
 He gave them the same names ³B flôÑL·öÓíÖñê¥ÖþКÌiÔî

 “They are a danger to us  eòÖñóÑííÖñ֚г  He said, “Perhaps there is some sin within me  ,−ÌaLÓ−öBÖ¼êÖnÓL:þÔôÖê
 because they will [provoke] armies to come upon us.” 91  .eò−ÑñÖ¼ ³BêÖaÔí ³B½−ÖiÔbÔí−ÑòÐõÌô  that caused me to bless the younger one  öÖ¬ÖwÔí−ÌzÐ×ÔþÑaÓL
 [Onkelos renders it:] −ÑêÖzÐLÌñÐt öeòBnÔ¬  −ÑêÖzÐLÌñÐt öeòBnÔ¬  before the older one  ñBðÖbÔí−ÑòÐõÌñ
 meaning stopping up.  ,íÖô−̳н öBLÐñ  exchanging the order of their relationship.”  ?½ÔìÔiÔíþÓðѽ−̳−ÌpÌLÐî
 [We find the] expression in the Talmud 92  :ðeôÐñÔzÔí öBLÐñÌëe  Eisov then began shouting,  :šÑ¼Ô®ÐôîÖNѼñ−ÌìгÌí
 “Stops up the heart.”  :ëÑlÔí³ÓêóѬÐôÔ¬Ðô  “This one has cheated me twice!”  .óÌ−ÔôμÔõíÓï−ÌòÑëКмÔiÔ î
 [17] In the valley of Gerar. 93  .øÈøÀâìÇçÇðÀa [æé]  [Whereupon] his father said to him,  :î−ÌëÖêBñþÔôÖê
 Far away from the city.  :þ−̼ÖíöÌô šBìÖþ  “What did he do to you?”  ?EÐñíÖNÖ¼íÓô
 [18] Returned, excavated.  .øÉtÀçÇiÇåáÈLÈiÇå [çé]  He [Eisov] responded, “He took away my birthright!”  .ìÖšÖñ−̳ÖþÒ×Ða³Óê :Bñ þÔôÖê
 [Meaning:] those wells that they had dug  eþÐõÖìþÓLÎê ³BþÑêÐaÔí  He [Yitzchok, then] said:  :þÔôÖê
 in the days of his father Avraham  î−ÌëÖêóÖíÖþÐëÔê−Ñô−Ìa  “Now that is why I was grieved and trembled,  ðÑþÖìÐîþÔ®Ñô−̳−Ì−ÖíCÔ×Ða
 and which the Philistines had stopped up,  ,óeôÐz̽ó−ÌzÐLÌñÐõe  for perhaps I had transgressed strict justice,  ,ö−ÌcÔí³ÔþeL ñÔ¼−ÌzÐþÔëÖ¼êÖnÓL
               but, now, I have actually blessed the firstborn  ,−ÌzÐ×ÔþÑa þB×ÐaÔñî−ÖLÐ×Ô¼

 [the Philistines were jealous of him], that it was due to jealousy that they stopped up the wells.  92  Pesachim 42, 1.  173  Though often íôþôë means with trickery, here, Rashi agrees with Onkelos’ translation êÖôÐ×ÖìÐa—with wisdom.
