 which Adonoy Elohim made; ó−¢ÌíGÍêí¤ÖîÒíÐ−í£ÖNÖ¼þ'ÓLÎê  and from Your face I am to be hidden. þ¢Ñ³ÖqÓêE−£ÓòÖtÌôe
 and it said to the woman, í flÖMÌê¤Öí-ñÓê·þÓôê¶ÒiÔî  I am to be unsettled and a wanderer on the earth; ±Óþ flÖêÖa·ðÖòÖî¼¥Öò−̳−‚Ì−ÖíÐî
 “Did Elohim even say that you should not eat e flñÐ×ê ÞÒ³ê¤Gó− flÌíGÍêþ¤ÔôÖê-−ÞÌk¹Ôêƒ  whoever finds me, will kill me.” :−ÌòÞÑèÐþÔíÞÔ−−£ÌêЮ ÞÒô-ñÖ×í'Ö−ÖíÐî
 from all the trees of the Garden?” :öÞÖbÔí±'Ѽñ£ÒkÌô  15. Adonoy said to him, í†ÖîÒíÐ−B¤ñþÓôê«ÒiÔî .î¬
 2. The woman said to the serpent, L¢ÖìÖpÔí-ñÓêí£ÖMÌêÞÖíþÓôê'ÒzÔî.ë  “Therefore, whoever kills Kayin, öÌ− flÔšè¤ÑþÒí-ñÖk·öÑ×Öñ
 “From the fruit of the trees of the Garden ö£ÖbÔ í-±Ñ¼−'ÌþÐtÌô  revenge will be taken on him [Kayin] sevenfold.” ó¢ÖwŠ−óÌ−£Ô³Ö¼ÐëÌL
 we may eat. :ñÞÑ×êÒò
 3. But of the fruit of the tree ‡±Ñ¼Öí−¤ÌþÐtÌôe .è  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RASHI  é"ùøAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
 that is in the middle of the Garden, ›öÖbÔí-CB Þ³Ðaþ¤ÓLÎê  [15] Therefore, whoever kills Kayin. 256  .ïÄéÇ÷âÅøÉäìÈkïÅëÈì [åè]
 Elohim said, ‘You shall not eat from it, ep flÓnÌô·eñÐ×ê ÞÒ³ê¥Gó−†ÌíGÍêþ¤ÔôÖê  This is one of those verses  ³BêÖþКÌôÔíöÌôðÖìÓêíÓï
 neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” :öe Þ³ŠôÐzö£ÓtB¢ae£¼Ðb̳ê'GÐî  in which words are brief  óÓí−ÑþÐëÌðeþÐvÌwÓL
 4. The serpent said to the woman, í¢ÖMÌêÞÖí-ñÓêL£ÖìÖpÔíþÓôê'ÒiÔî.ð  and its meaning is only hinted without elaborating.  eLÐþÑõêGÐîeïÐôÖþÐî
 “You certainly will not die. :öe Þ³ŠôÐz³B £ô-êG  [The proper explanation is:] Therefore, [the words,]  öÑ×Öñ
               “Whoever kills Kayin” convey a stern threat:  ,íÖþÖ¼Ðb öBLÐñöÌ−ÔšèÑþBí ñÖk
 AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RASHI  é"ùøAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA  thus will be done to him,  ,Bñ íÓNÖ¼Ñ−íÒk
                    such and such will be his punishment,  ,BLÐòÖ¼CÔ×ÐîCÔk
 More cunning than any. 165  .ìÉkÄî íeøÈò  without specifying what his punishment will be.  :BLÐòÖ¼LÔþÑõêGÐî
 As cunning and mighty [as he was]  B³ÖleðÐèe B³ÖôÐþÖ¼−ÌõÐñ  Revenge will be taken on him sevenfold.  .íÈwËéíÄéÇúÈòÀáÄL
 [so, too,] was his downfall.  ,B³ÖñÖtÔôíÖ³Ð−Öí  “I do not wish to take vengeance from Kayin now,  ,î−ÖLÐ×Ô¼öÌ−ÔwÌôóÑšÖpÌíÐñíÓ®Bþ −Ìò−Ñê
 Most cunning of all, [became] most cursed of all. 166  :ñÒkÌô þeþÖê,ñÒkÌô óeþÖ¼
                [but, rather] at the end of seven generations  ³BþBð íÖ¼ÐëÌL ¹B½Ðñ
 Did [He] even say, etc.  .'åâå øÇîÈàéÄkóÇà  I will take my vengeance from him  ,epÓnÌô−̳ÖôКÌòóÑšBò −ÌòÎê
 Did He perhaps tell you  :óÓ×ÖñþÔôÖêêÖnÓL  whereby his descendant Lemech will rise up  î−ÖòÖë−ÑòÐaÌôCÓôÓñ ðBôμÔiÓL
 not to eat from any of the trees of the garden, etc.?  .’îèî ñÒkÌôeñÐ×êÒ³êG  and kill him.  .eíÑèÐþÔíÔ−Ðî
 And, although he saw them eating  ó−ÌñÐ×Bê óÖ³Bê íÖêÖþÓL−ÌtñÔ¼¹ÔêÐî  The words óÖwŠ−óÌ−Ô³Ö¼ÐëÌL at the end of the verse  ,óÖwŠ−óÌ−Ô³Ö¼ÐëÌLþÔôÖêÓLêÖþКÌnÔí ¹B½Ðî
 from the other fruits  ,³Bþ−ÑtþÖêÐMÌô  refers to the avenging of Hevel from Kayin.  ,öÌ−ÔwÌôñÓëÓí³ÔôКÌòê−ÌíÐî
 he indulged her in conversation  ó−ÌþÖëÐðÖí−ÓñÖ¼íÖaÐþÌí
 so that she should be obliged to answer him,  epÓë−ÌLÐzÓL−ÑðÐk  This teaches that the beginning of the verse  êÖþКÌô³ÔlÌìÐzÓL ,eòÖðÐnÌñêÖí
                                                ,ê−ÌííÖþÖ¼Ðb öBLÐñ
                                    is a stern threat
 and give him the opportunity to speak  þÑaÔðÐñêÒëÖ−Ðî  that no creature injure him.  .BzК−ÌfÔôíÖiÌþÐëêÑíÐzêHÓL
 about that particular tree.  :±Ñ¼Öí B³BêÐa
                          Similarly: 257  “And David said:  ,ðÌîÖcþÓôêÒiÔî :Bë êÑ®BiÔ×î
 [3] Neither shall you touch it. 167  .Ba eòÀâÄúàGÀå [â]  ‘Whoever kills a Yevusite and will reach the gutter’” 258  ,þBpÌvÔa¼ÔbÌ−Ðî−̽eëÐ−íÑkÔôñÖk
 She added more to the command;  ,−eeÌ®ÔíñÔ¼íÖõ−̽Bí
 therefore, it caused her to diminish [the command],  ,öB¼ÖþÑè−Ñð−ÌñíÖêÖaCÖ×−ÌõÐñ  and it does not state what will be done to him.  ,Bñ íÓNÖ¼Ñ−íÔôLÔþÑõêGÐî
                                                :ïÓôÓþÐa ëe³ÖkÔíþÓaÌcñÖëÎê
                   But, rather, the verse speaks by hinting:
 as it is said: 168  Do not add to His words.” 169  :î−ÖþÖëÐcñÔ¼¹Ñ½Bz ñÔê:þÔôÍêÓpÓL êeí
                     [meaning:] whoever kills a Yevusite  −̽eëÐ−íÑ kÔôñÖk
 [4] You certainly will not die.  .ïeúËîÀz úBî àG [ã]  and will reach the gutter  þBpÌvÔa¼ÔbÌ−Ðî
 He pushed her until she touched it [the tree].  ,Bë íÖ¼ÐèÖpÓLðÔ¼dÖõÖìÐc
      256  This verse should not be misconstrued as one statement, i.e., óš− ó−³¼ë¾ ö−š èþîí “Whosoever kills Kayin will suffer
 165  Why is it not sufficient to state that the serpent was cunning? Why compare him to others? (M., D.T.)  166  Ber.  retribution sevenfold.” Rather, there are two different messages: 1) ö−š èþîí ñ× ö×ñî “Whosoever kills Kayin [will suffer].
 Rab. As is related later (3, 14) that he was cursed more than any other animal.  167  But, God never told them not to  2) óš− ó−³¼ë¾ is a self-contained statement referring to the avenging of Hevel’s death at the hands of Kayin.  257  This
