PROPOSED THEMES FOR CAMPUS LAND USE
FRAMEWORK AND DEVELOPMENT PLANNING
1. UNIVERSITY AS PART OF THE TOWN- THE PLANNING
FOR ISU WILL INVOLVE THE APPLICATION OF URBAN DESIGN
THEORY TO ENLIVEN THE CAMPUS AND CREATE a productive
relationship with the surrounding community
2. TEaCHING AND RESEARCH SPACE GROWTH- in
anticipation of enrolment growth, planning will be
done for expansion of facilities for teaching,
research and housing
3. THE CAMPUS EXPERIENCE- enhancement of the
campus experience by creating a cohesive community
on campus through high quality spaces and student
services and centers
4. COLLOCATION AND CLUSTERING- clustering
academic groups together to foster interaction
and collocate industry clusters (biotech or
agrotech) adjacent or within the university
5. HERITAGE.-preserve the identity of the university
as expressed as expressed physically in its
architecture and traditions and reputations of the
institution
6. Circulation and pedestrian movement- on
account of environmental concerns and safety,
design logical pathways of a walkable campus to
enhance pedestrai movement.
7. Pedagogy changes- consider renovation and
replacement of buildings and facilities as aligned
with changes in curriculum and teaching method.
