Operational procedures
c) When flying over water at a distance of more than 200 NM from a land
area where landing is possible, multi-engine airplanes must carry an
automatic ELT and flotation and survival equipment appropriate for the
intended flight
d) During other commercial flights over water where there is no gliding
o
distance to land and the water is below +10 C, all on board must wear
survival suits
In addition, in all the above cases, pyrotechnic distress signal equipment must
be carried.
NB:
When flying over water, it is a good idea to put on the vest before flying.
However, you should not inflate the vest before you are clear of the aircraft, in
the event of an emergency landing on water.
It would be chaos if 3 persons on board the aircraft had to put on a vest if the
engine stalled, and you are, for example, at 2000 ft and will get into contact
with water within 2 minutes.
