6.3.2.3 Equipment for flight over water
8.11.2 NCO.IDE.A.175 Flight over water:
a. The following airplanes shall be equipped with a lifejacket for each
occupant or an equivalent individual flotation device for each occupant,
which shall be worn or stowed in a position readily accessible from the seat
or berth of the person to whom the lifejacket or the flotation device is
intended:
1) single-engined land aeroplanes when:
i) they are flying over water beyond gliding distance from land
or
ii) they are taking off or landing at an aerodrome or operating site
where, in the opinion of the commander, the take-off or approach
runway is located over water in such a way that in the event of an
accident there would be a probability of ditching on water
2) seaplanes operated over water
3) airplanes operated for a distance greater than the equivalent of 30
minutes flying time at normal cruising speed or 50 NM, whichever is the
shorter.
For airplanes flying over water, the following applies:
a) When flying over water at a distance of more than 50 NM from a land area
where landing is possible, all airplanes must be equipped with life jackets
for all on board
b) When flying over water at a distance of more than 100 NM from a land
area where landing is possible, single-engine airplanes must carry an
automatic ELT and flotation and survival equipment appropriate for the
intended flight
