Last week, Umit So-
muncu’s daughter Gaye,
who is director of commu-
nications for Calik Hold-
ing, lodged a complaint
about the workers with the

prosecutor’s office. Follow-
ing this, the Kazova textile
workers made a press state-
ment in front of Calik
Holding’s building on
Thursdy 19 September. At
half past three they ap-

peared at the top of the
street on which the com-
pany is located and opened
a banner with the inscription, “WE ARE ON HUNGER STRIKE
UNTIL WE GET OUT RIGHTS FROM THE BOSSES THE
SOMUNCU FAMILY WHO HAVE TAKEN AWAY THE
FRUITS OF OUR LABOUR”. They also chanted the slogans
“We will not allow Umit Somuncu to take away our rights, we
don’t want charity we want our rights, we are workers, we are right,
we will win” when they were in front of the workplace.

This Resistance Is A First In Turkey

On Thursday 19 September the Kazova textile workers
marched from Mecidiyekoy to Sisli, forming a chain.

At half past six in the evening the workers gathered at
Mecidiyekoy metro stop, put up resistance photographs and
