Food, Health and Safety
If a Team Member is suspected or claims to have been diagnosed with a communicable disease or any illness
that has the potential of becoming an epidemic such as Swine Flu or Bird Flu, or any other contagious illness
that may impact the health and well-being of our Guests and Team Members, follow the process below.
Gather facts. The initial information may come from the Team Member, a parent of the Team Member or
the Health Department. Remember that all information must be kept confidential and not shared with any
Team Members.
Call your ROD/ROM and provide as many facts as possible.
The ROD/ROM will contact the Crisis Hotline and the Crisis Team will be notified. The appropriate Crisis
Team Members will provide direction and next steps.
IF A COMMUNICABLE DISEASE IS CONFIRMED, THIS ESCALATES TO A LEVEL 1 DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF
WIDESPREAD MEDIA COVERAGE AND THE SENSITIVE NATURE OF HOW IT NEEDS TO BE HANDLED.
TEAM MEMBER – PROTECTED DISABILITY
Contact HR for guidance and next steps if a Team Member or Manager shares with you that he/she has
been diagnosed with a disease that’s a protected disability. Diseases such as AIDS, HIV and Hepatitis B are
protected disabilities.
The law prohibits firing such persons and protects their confidentiality.
The law may also prevent disclosure or inquiries.
You cannot remove these individuals from food prep or Guest service unless he/she has open lesions
or cuts.
