Operations

Team Members, landlord Team Members and contractors who perform hot work should be supervised to
assure that the work does not ignite merchandise or other combustible materials which could start a fire
within the store. The FM Global Hot Work Permit System provides instructions and precautions to prevent an
            emergency.
Hot work is defined as torch cutting, welding, brazing, grinding operations, soldering, thawing pipe, torch
applied roofing and other tasks that involve an open flame or produce heat or sparks.

            PRECAUTIONS

 Assure that automatic fire sprinkler systems, hose stations and fire extinguishers are present and in service.
 The hot work equipment is in good repair.

PRECAUTIONS WITHIN 35 FEET OF THE WORK INCLUDE:
 Removing flammable liquids, dust, lint and oily deposits.
             Sweeping floors clean.
 Wetting combustible floors and cover using damp sand or fire-resistive sheets.
 Removing all remaining combustibles, where possible, or cover with fire resistive sheets, tarpaulins or metal shields.
 Covering all floor and wall openings, penetrations, etc.
 Suspending fire-resistive tarpaulins beneath work.

            WORK ON WALL OR CEILINGS
 Assure construction of the wall is noncombustible and without combustible coverings.
 Combustibles on the other side of the wall have been moved away.

            WORK ON ENCLOSED EQUIPMENT
 Enclosed equipment is cleaned of all combustibles. There should be no storage beneath raised portion of games or
               store construction.
 Containers purged of flammable liquids, gases or vapors.

            FIRE WATCH

These procedures are designed to monitor the work in progress:
 A fire watch should be provided during and for 60 minutes after the work is completed, including any coffee
                   breaks or lunch breaks.
 Fire watch is supplied with suitable fire extinguishers and trained in their use.
 A fire watch may be required in adjoining area, beside, above or below the work.
 Monitor the hot work area for 4 hours after the job is completed. A walk through the area every 15 minutes to ½
                   hour is sufficient.
