THE LOST NOUNS
Truth to Teach (Source)
To reinforce the use of nouns as names of people, places and things.
To talk about the noun as a subject.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the previous lesson.
2. Let the children search in a given area/classroom to find the hidden pieces of
paper bearing the names of nouns cut from the separate sheet.
3. Gather to read out the nouns letting the children put them under the correct
labels of person, place or thing.
4. Talk about nouns sometimes being called the subject of the sentence. Every
sentence has to have a subject but it is not always a noun but a replacement of
a noun, e.g. Dad or he, an animal or it, mother or she.
5. Explain that the children are going to look for hidden nouns in a Bible story.
Some children may also unravel the jumbled letters to reveal more nouns.
6. More able children may search for ‘lost nouns’ in their reading books.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children should be more confident in identifying nouns in a passage of
prose.
2. They will hopefully be more aware of nouns in their own writing.
