Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children should recognise the need to be loyal to one another except where
wrongdoing should be exposed.
2. They will hopefully have learnt lessons from the Bible characters referred to in the
lesson which they may, one day, apply in their lives.
CHILDREN OBEY THEIR PARENTS
Truth to Teach (Source)
Ephesians 6:1 ‘Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.’
Colossians 3:20 ‘Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.’
Luke 2:51 ‘Then Jesus went down to Nazareth with them (Mary and Joseph)
and was obedient to them.’
Proverbs 4:1 ‘Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain
understanding.’
Proverbs 19:16 ‘He who obeys instructions guards his life.’
1 Samuel 3:10 ‘Then Samuel said (to God), “Speak, for your servant is listening.’
¾ Children should not only obey their earthly parents but also their heavenly Father.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review previous lessons.
2. Two dramas could be used to contrast an obedient and a disobedient child.
3. Talk about the kind of instructions the children are given to obey at home, eg put away
your clothes, tidy your room, come here, turn off the television, share the computer.
Let the children share how obedient they feel that they are at home.
Do they have rewards for obedience? Is the family more at peace when children are
obedient? Are they respectful in the way they speak to their parents and other
adults?
Apply this to school and let the children assess how obedient they feel they are.
