Executive Director - SU Foundation
As CAO and the executive director (ED) of SU Foundation, a 501(c)(3)
organization that serves as an affiliate partner of the State University with a
mission to ‘cultivate and nurture lifelong relationships with and among current
and future donors while offering relevant and constituent-focused programs that
generate support and loyalty to the Institution,’ Alonzo develops, implements and
evaluates programs, requiring a multi-year pledge of both focus and strength.
▪ The SU Foundation (SUF) is charged with generating an active and engaged
community committed to advancing the State University. SUF serves more
than 250 volunteers and 100,000 former SU students living throughout the 50
U.S. states and in more than 75 countries.
▪ SUF offers programs and services to SU constituencies, including activities
through Volunteer engagement, Faculty & Staff appeals, Alumni Chapters and
Clubs, communications, travel, membership, sponsorships and Special Events.
For State University to maintain its place among the top tier of America’s
institutions, its stakeholders must have a strong and engaged presence
within the University. The SU Foundation fosters these critical connections
and serves all stakeholders as their entryway to SU.

In an organization, regardless of age or size, the foremost obstacle is finding the
right people to approach for solicitation. A common misconception is that wealth
is the most important factor. However, in the interest of time -- as well as to
convene and move a meeting forward -- Alonzo would, within two weeks before a
meeting, send a draft of the Board meeting agenda to the president of the Board.
The president would review, edit or approve the Draft for dissemination. Once
approved, Alonzo uses email to disseminate the agenda and related materials
which assist members of the board to articulate, deliberate and reach decision.
