Patties
This pastry is a product of
colonisation due to the aid of
cultural influence from the various
ethnic groups.
This pastry can be enjoyed as a
complete meal as it often stuffed
with varied pre-cooked foods such
as: beef, cheese, shrimp, Ackee,
Callaloo, chicken, pork; among
others and is most times
accompanied by a ‘coco-bread’.
Often enjoyed in the lunch time,
the Jamaican patty companies
vie to have the best tasting patties
to attract the consumers.

Rice
This edible starch grain is
produced by a plant and is
enjoyed as a main source of
starch for many countries across
the world. This grain is dominant in
the Asian countries as it was
introduced to Jamaica by the
Asians.
Rice is cooked by boiling and is
enjoyed alone or as a side dish.
Many variations have been
introduced over time with its
preparation: rice and peas,
seasoned rice, rice porridge and
even rice pudding.
